DIY: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies {in a jar}

Today we're making Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies {in a jar}.
I absolutely love making gifts in a jar! {especially around the holidays} They're super easy to make, a fun project and a great idea for gifts for neighbors, friends, family or co-workers.

What you'll need:
1 quart size mason jar
a 5" x 5" piece of festive fabric
ribbon
recipe labels {either handwritten or printed}
2/3 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups dry oatmeal
1 cup chocolate chips

First, make sure that your mason jar is clean. Then, layer the ingredients in the following order:
Layer 1: flour + baking soda {combined}
Layer 2: sugar + cinnamon + cloves + salt {combined}
Layer 3: brown sugar
Layer 4: oatmeal
Layer 5: chocolate chips

{you're almost done!}

Put the round disc from the mason jar closure on first...then cover with your square of fabric. Place mason jar ring closure on top and screw down until secure. Tie ribbon around jar lid and then add recipe label.
It should read:

oatmeal chocolate chip cookies {in a jar}
preheat oven to 350°
add 1 egg, 1/2 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to oatmeal chocolate chip cookies {in a jar} mix. mix well. spoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet. cook for 10 to 12 minutes {or until golden brown}. makes one dozen.

I've included a template just in case you might want to use it: {it's set up to print on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper}

You're finished product should look a little something like this:

So...if you're looking for a unique gift that also happens to be a delicious treat {that the receiver can bake at their own convenience} this might be a perfect gift for you make and give this season. I hope that you try it out and have fun doing it!
